After I watched this film, I swore it was a 'mocumentary' in the fine tradition of Spinal Tap. People have been trying to convince me that's it real ever since... I guess you just can't make this shit up.

Jump Tomorrow (2001) on sat

OK - we have opted for a loose interpretation of the name 'Friday Fortnightly Film Club', so the next film is this SATURDAY at 8pm.

I asked Orestes to do the honours and he's going to show 'Jump Tomorrow' directed by Joel Hopkins. Never heard of it before? Neither had I, so here'e a little summary and a link to the trailer to entice you.

The sweetness at the core of this raggedy low-budget romantic comedy is hard to resist, because its beats of small-scale intimacy reflect the geeky yet winning persona of the lead character, the stoic George (Tunde Adebimpe). Gangly, with a slightly at-sea expression frozen on his face, he couldn't be less adept at expressing his emotions and even has trouble watching a romantic tableau unfold before him. George is even more awkward away from his Nigerian homeland, in America, where he is being shepherded into an arranged marriage with a woman he has known since childhood. - Elvis Mitchell , The New York Times

Thank you all for coming to the 1st Friday Filmclub to watch Nosferatu! It was great to chill out, pig out on popcorn and pokies, and just talk film. I suggest we get started a little earlier next week, especially for those going back on the tube.

So, time to start thinking about what to watch next. Let's spend the next week building-up the official rolling shortlist. Once everyone has nominated their 1 or 2 candidate films for the next screening we vote on them here.

Orestes has wasted no time what so ever and has already sent his suggestions in early. That's what I like to see Orestes. I've added them to the following Google Spreasheet which will also be embedded in the main page. The idea is that anyone can edit the list or post to this blog. If you want to do that, email me for the details because I can't post them here.

Remember, this is your cream of the crop - the more obscure the better.

We can generate other lists of films as people desire.

In the future, I'll have a pen and paper ready and record the film titles that come up during conversation at the screening. So many new films to watch! Keep 'em coming...

Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (1979)

For the maiden screening on Friday the 13th of April, the date dictates horror! How funny, this year Good Friday is followed directly by a Bad Friday... Anyway, as I've been somewhat infatuated with the German Director Werner Herzog lately, let's get appropriately spooky with his remake of "Nosferatu".

...perhaps followed by a light screening of the silent original.

Subsequent films should be suggested by viewers like you by commenting in the week following the screening. I hope that a healthy post-film discussion and debate will ensue prompting campaigns for which one we should watch next. Suggestions will be accepted until a week before the next screening at which time the voting will commence. The film with the most votes gets shown the next week. There...doesn't that sound democratic.
